Michael Marra’s visit to Arbuthnott Hall

The day was as cauld as a Scottish Spring
When thought the door came a songwriting painter
He said “my name’s Mick” as he stepped up tae the mat
And he asked for a coffee as black as ee’s hat

He said “is this a Roland; it looks no bad”
But the sound that it made was a load o’ auld wad
But never the less he did his best
Which was a hundred times better than a’ the rest; o’ us

One o’ us stood up and said “a’ canna write cause I’ve got writer’s block and that’s nae joke”
Mick said “I dinna go along wi’ a’ that stuff cause I’ve never heard o’ welder’s block and I’ve been around for a long long time”
So the fella sat doon and said “a well I suppose that’ll be fine”

So we a’ sat there fair mesmerised
Hae’n this Dundee legend right in front o’ oor eyes
He said cheerio we thanked him one and all
Wi’ ee’s genius songs still rattlin’ round the hall
